North Asian Free Trade Agreements



On 12 April 2017, the Hon. Steven Ciobo, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment announced that the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) is a recipient of the Free Trade Agreement Training Provider Grant, reflecting the central role that APSA and its secretariat, Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA), plays in supporting Australia's international trade sector.

The APSA application titled 'Links in the Chain- recognising the importance of service providers in Free Trade Agreement utilisation' focuses on the role of service providers in helping small to medium enterprises (SME) in accessing quality advice in respect to Australia's North Asian Free Trade Agreements with China, South Korea and Japan.

E-Learning

(Free Trade Agreements for SME exporters)

APSA and FTA have made available interactive e-learning courses, based on user guides developed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), aimed at providing exporters a basic understanding on tariff classification, treatment of goods, rules of origin and use of certificates of origin.

Combined with the use of the Free Trade Agreement Portal, this training will assist existing and potential exporters and importers in understanding commercial opportunities available by using the North Asian Free Trade Agreements.

APSA and FTA will make available a series of free live webinars, delivered by subject experts, examining technical aspects of the North Asian Free Trade Agreements. The training will be specifically aimed at trade professionals such as freight forwarders and customs brokers and available via:

APSA and FTA will host concentrated face-to-face sessions examining technical aspects of the North Asian Free Trade Agreements, specifically aimed at trade professionals such as freight forwarders and customs brokers.

These sessions will be accredited for customs broker Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points as a part of our CPD & CBC - Border and Biosecurity Compliance Program.

As a part of all professional development events and webinars, APSA and FTA encourages attendees to make sales and account managers aware of the tools and e-learning material to support exporters in increased utilisation of Free Trade Agreements.
