SPONSOR OF THE WEEK
We use the latest mobile technology ensuring all results are sent to the department immediately after completion of the fumigation process. So, no waiting for fumigators to return to the office to process their paperwork to send to the department, it is all done automatically speeding up the process. We have a dedicated link to the department resulting in Biosecurity releases coming through quicker sometime within hours of sending the results. - to find out more click HERE or visit the website

REPORTING SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR TO THE ACCC
THE GREAT FREIGHT BACKLOG

Danielle Le Messurier, from the West Australian newspaper, recently reached out to the WA freight forwarding community to seek their views on the current issues facing Australian importers / exporters and the impact it is also having on our freight and logistics professionals.
Bullocks Freightmasters International and EES Shipping, both Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) members, provided their operational insights - read the full article here  page 1 / page 2
In continuing Freight & Trade Alliance's advocacy across all levels of government, John Park (Head of Business Operations - FTA) along with Matthew Bronickis (Chair - West Australian Port Operations Taskforce) met with Peter Laing (Senior Policy Advisor to the Hon. Rita Saffioti, Minister for Transport, Planning & Ports) on Friday 19 November, 2021.

The meeting provided an opportunity to brief the Minister's office on the current logistics issues facing the Fremantle industry (unresolved industrial relations matters, proposed changes to berthing arrangements) and discuss the ongoing work of Westport.

We also sought the Ministers support, through her national colleagues, for a national review to address such matters as
  • waterfront industrial relations reform,
  • revision of competition law protections provided to international shipping lines (including repeal of Part X of the Competition and Consumer Act),
  • protections against unfair shipping line imposed container detention practices and termination of exorbitant terminal access charges imposed by stevedores and empty container parks.
FTA look forward to a continuing dialogue with the Ministers office to allow our member's, and the wider logistics community, interests to be shared and considered.
