SHIPPING CRISIS - ADVOCACY TO TREASURY |
|
As a part of our ongoing advocacy for a Federal Government commissioned review of international shipping, FTA/APSA have been working collaboratively amongst a group of thirty (30) industry bodies representing businesses adversely impacted by the worsening shipping crisis.
The collective group wrote to The Hon. Josh Frydenberg MP Treasurer yesterday (27 October 2021) providing a suggested 'Terms of Reference' as a part of a request for the commissioning of a formal review of both air and maritime logistics systems. In parallel, a representative group of FTA/APSA members also met yesterday with Treasury officials. While extensive reference was made to the ongoing waterfront industrial relations matters and our direct engagement with the Attorney-General and departmental representatives, the primary focus of the meeting centred on the following reforms that should be led by the Federal Government as an essential element in driving Australia's economic recovery - READ MORE |

WEBINAR - TARIFF CONCESSION ORDERS – NEW CASE LAW AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR IMPORTERS |
|
Tariff Concession Orders (TCOs) are an effective tool to reduce customs duty where a free trade agreement is not available. However, where there is an objection from a local manufacturer, TCOs can be notoriously hard to obtain.
This may be about to change with recent case law suggesting the substitutable goods test has been incorrectly applied. In this webinar Russell Wiese of CGT Law will provide guidance on:
• The substitutability test and recent case law • Key considerations for TCO applicants when drafting TCOs • The requirement to make inquiries prior to lodging a TCO application • Made to order goods and whether a local manufacturer is prepared to accept an order

Australia heading towards a ban on goods produced by forced labour – Issues for logistics professionals - By RUSSELL WIESE, Director – CGT Law |
|
While we often marvel at the sophistication of modern supply chains, some of worst historic aspects of supply chains remain. It is estimated that 25 million people worldwide are subject to forced labour. About 16 million of these people are exploited by global supply chains that involve private enterprise. It should come as no surprise then that there is strong support for legislation banning the importation of goods produced by forced labour. However, for that strong support to be transformed into legislation passed by Government, the law will need to be workable for small business and logistics professionals - READ MORE (full edition of the latest Across Borders available HERE) |
