WEEK IN REVIEW
INAUGURAL WOMEN IN LOGISTICS WELLNESS WALK & BREAKFAST
We had a spectacular morning yesterday for International Women's Day at the Inaugural Women in Logistics Wellness Walk & Breakfast.at the beautiful Bondi Beach. This event was re-imagined this year in conjunction with the very difficult 12 months we have all had, focussing on mental and physical wellness.

We would like to thank our event sponsors and the 120 men and women who attended from across the supply chain, the men who cooked the BBQ and the volunteers from wondering women for their support.

We were inspired by presentations from Sarah Pike (Country Manager, Amazon Flex Australia & Singapore at  Amazon Logistics), My Therese Blank (Head of Regional Ocean Management - Maersk), Lisa Tilsed (Wondering Women), Joyce Campbell (Next Leap Training) and Joel Pilgrim (Founder & CEO - Waves of Wellness).

The event created a sense of community and belonging and importantly, recognised the value and achievements of the ladies in the industry and the important role we all play in servicing the Australian public and our role in economic recovery of the country.

We were also delighted to raise $10,000 for charity supporting Bayside Women's Shelter and Waves of Wellness.
SHIPPING LINES POSITIVELY RESPOND TO FTA / APSA CALLS FOR AN END TO PORT BOTANY CONGESTION SURCHARGES

Sensational news resulting from APSA and FTA advocacy.

Following last Thursday's member notice calling for an end to the Port Botany Congestion Surcharges, we are delighted to report that Hamburg Sud and Maersk positively responded acknowledging the improved operational conditions and termination of the surcharge.

We will raise this matter with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) when we meet this week. in the interim we will continue direct engagement with shipping lines to encourage reasonable measures in voluntarily reviewing existing practices and surcharge administration.

OUT AND ABOUT IN VICTORIA

Great to see our Victorian representative, Sal Milici (Head of Border and Biosecurity - FTA / APSA) engaging with Shaun Mooney (EGM- Commercial at Port of Melbourne) and Roma Britnell MP (Shadow Minister for Ports and Freight) to discuss all matters from local rail and empty containers issues to the global challenges of shipping line consolidation.

CUSTOMS TARIFF AMENDMENT (INCORPORATION OF PROPOSALS AND OTHER MEASURES) ACT 2021
The Customs Tariff Amendment (Incorporation of Proposals and Other Measures) Act 2021 has now received Royal Assent. The consequential amendments to the Tariff should therefore commence on 29 March 2021.

The amendments to the Tariff include:
  • New subheadings for specifically formulated caffeinated beverages, formulated supplementary sports foods and formulated supplementary foods;
  • A new Note providing that products such as the gummi bears in Pharmacare are not classified medicaments of Chapter 30 , but as food supplements of 2106, unless another classification applies.
  • A new Note that wheelie bins are not classified to Chapter 87, and therefore their wheels are classified to Chapter 39 or Section XV as appropriate
  • New Notes that provide that plates, rods, angles, shapes, sections, tubes, pipes and the like requiring further modification prior to being used cannot be classified as parts. New Chapter notes have been added to Chapters 73 and 76.
