FTA / APSA - IN THE MEDIA

DCN - Industry relief at ceasefire report

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) director and Australian Peak Shippers Association secretariat, Paul Zalai, said a ceasefire and a lasting peace in the Middle East "cannot come soon enough, not only to alleviate human suffering but also to help stabilise fuel markets driving up global costs". Mr Zalai said while the government's focus on fuel security and transport continuity was necessary, it was only part of the equation.

"Australian exporters are facing escalating surcharges and ongoing supply chain volatility and continue to wait for meaningful support. This gap needs to be addressed as a matter of priority," he said.

The Daily Telegraph - Petrol price to tumble, interest rate pause. What ceasefire means for you

FTA's General Manager Freight Policy & Operations, Tom Jensen, was featured in The Daily Telegraph coverage examining what the Iran ceasefire could mean for Australian households, inflation and supply chains.

The article highlighted FTA's view that, while there may be some immediate relief for bulk and energy shipping, containerised trade remains far more exposed to risk and disruption. part of the equation.

Mr Jensen warned that container shipping remains fragile, stating:
"There is a lot of trepidation in shipping lines," and that "Insurance costs are still an issue and there is no guarantee the ceasefire won't fall apart."

News.com.au - Supply chain scramble as Iran conflict spurs fresh Taiwan fears

NewsCorp's NewsWire reported on rising concern within government and industry that the disruption caused by the Iran conflict has reinforced how exposed Australia would be to a far more severe supply chain shock if tensions escalated in the Taiwan Strait.

In contributing to the article, Paul Zalai, Director of Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA), focused on the direct freight and commercial risks for Australian importers and exporters, including disrupted trade flows, higher freight costs, emergency surcharges and the limits of contingency planning alone.

Paul Zalai warned, "Contingency planning is essential, but it is not enough on its own," Mr Zalai said. "Australian exporters and importers cannot be left to carry the full cost of global instability."
"With nearly half of our trade exposed to this region, proactive government support is critical to safeguard supply chains and maintain international competitiveness."
