Select Committee.pdf

On 4 November 2025, the Senate resolved that the Select Committee on Productivity in Australia (the committee), be established to inquire into and report by 30 September 2026.

The committee has invited Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) to make a submission addressing some or all of the committee's terms of reference - correspondence available HERE

FREIGHT SUPPLY CHAINS

The terms of reference, discussion paper as well as other information about the inquiry is available on the inquiry webpage.

Importantly, the above resources make specific reference to "Freight supply chains"

The freight and logistics industry is an essential component of Australia's economy. However, global and domestic freight disruptions continue to destabilise the supply chain, leading to congestion, delays and higher costs. Productivity growth in the industry has experienced either limited growth or a decline in most years since 2003–04.

  • How can fit-for-purpose freight infrastructure encourage productivity growth and economic dynamism?
  • How has disrupted freight supply chains impacted Australia's infrastructure resilience?
  • Would harmonised freight and logistics regulations better support Australia's economy?
SUBMISSIONS

The closing date for submissions is Friday, 20 February 2026 and can be made online via the inquiry webpage, sent to the committee via email at productivity.sen@aph.gov.au or posted to the committee at PO Box 6100, Parliament House, Canberra ACT 2600.

Picking up on themes from correspondence to the Federal Treasurer on 20 June 2025, FTA / APSA will be preparing a formal submission to the committee. FTA and APSA have made preliminary contact with prominent committee members and will be following up with in-person meetings in Canberra next month.

Supporting this approach, we would value member feedback for inclusion in the FTA / APSA submission to Amanda Bradfield at abradfield@FTAlliance.com.au by Friday 6 February 2026.
