FTA / APSA - OUT & ABOUT

AGS 40th Anniversary

Caroline & Paul Zalai (pictured with Tim Mason OOCL & Lindsay Reed DCN) were privileged to join industry colleagues, friends, and partners last Friday night in Sydney to celebrate AGS' 40th anniversary - and doing it in spectacular style!

Congratulations to Terry Tzaneros, John Forster and the AGS World Transport team.

Sydney visits with Tom Jensen

Last Monday Tom Jensen, General Manager Freight Policy & Operations - FTA | APSA had a full day of visits across Sydney's air and sea freight network, seeing firsthand the impressive work underway by some of our key partners.

It was great to have had the chance to sit down with Tom Redmond from Qantas Freight. We covered some of the pressing global trade challenges and Qantas' focus on building resilience and opportunities for the future.

A big thanks to Kayla Moa and the team at Menzies Aviation for the tour of their upgraded facilities. They're already a key player in the perishables market and are now lifting the bar further with significant improvements to their operations.

Getting away from airside Tom paid a visit to NSW Ports to meet with Marion Kloos and Jonathan Lafforgue. Great to hear about the improvements well underway, including the Port Botany Quayline Equalisation Project and the delivery of stage two of on-dock rail — both critical steps in strengthening supply chain efficiency.

(above left) Tom also caught up with two of the very first people he worked with, his first boss/leader chris zanoni (Director at Asean Cargo Pty Limited) and one of his original colleagues Lamia Napoli (now also a Director). It was a great reminder that this industry is built on people and relationships. You never forget your first leaders, colleagues

BORDER

Mixed bag of illicit goods seized following operation across state borders

The Australian Border Force (ABF) and Australian Federal Police (AFP), with support from AUSTRAC financial analysts, have foiled a sophisticated criminal operation by seizing 4,010,000 illicit cigarettes and over AUD $24 million in proceeds of crime, including two residential properties, a commercial factory, AUD $2million in cash, luxury handbags and a Toyota Hilux.

A separate ABF investigation began after ABF officers seized more than four million illicit cigarettes concealed behind a wall of bricks in a sea container which arrived into Fremantle, Western Australia, on 8 August 2025. It was later identified the shipment was an alleged 'piggyback' operation by a crime syndicate, with the illicit cigarettes added to a legitimate import unbeknown to the importer. READ MORE (story and picture credit ABF)
