Port Pricing and Access Review update On Friday 6 September 2019, Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) Head of Trade and Policy, Andrew Crawford, facilitated a meeting of Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) members to prepare our response to the Victorian Government's review of Port Pricing and Access. As many of you know, APSA played a critical role in the Victorian Government establishing this review in response to rising infrastructure charges / port access fees (see the Herald Sun coverage HERE)
While the review has taken longer than expected, we're pleased to say that it is now formally underway with a draft report due in October 2019 and final recommendations likely to be released in November this year.
Deloitte is conducting the review and the terms of reference are available HERE
FTA / APSA would like to thank the members who have contributed to our submission to date. If you would like to add your view, please email Andrew directly at acrawford@ftalliance.com.au

"Communication between traders in order to agree on terms requires a meeting of the minds, often between complete strangers, and usually across divergent linguistic, cultural and regulatory lines. This is increasingly the case with the diversification of complex global supply chains."

FINANCE REPORT
Weekly Market Commentary Markets finished the week on a positive note, reinvigorated by the developments on the US/China trade front, allowing global growth prospects to improve. Chinese negotiators have been in communication with their US counterparts and finally look prepared to do a deal. Negotiations are set for early October and a result looks as though it may be likely. This allowed confidence to surge in markets and this has supported a spike in both equity and bond markets. US Non Farm Payrolls added 130,000, slightly missing expectations, but Unemployment held steady at 3.7%. The strong US economy has been reflected in the tight labour market, which has driven up participation rates and wages. ... read moreWeekly Market Calendar9/9 China Trade Exports/Imports, NZ Manufacturing Activity, Japan Current Account, Japan Trade Exports/Imports, Japan GDP, NZ House Sales, German Trade Exports/Imports, EU Confidence, UK Industrial/Manufacturing Production, US Trade Exports/Imports ... read more |
