Port Kembla, in the Illawarra, to support offshore wind developments.

VALE - Peter Blaxland

It is with regret we advise that Peter Blaxland passed away on Easter Sunday. Peter was a pioneer of Australian logistics from the 1970s partnering with Ian Wiseman (who passed away 31 Dec 2022) to found Blaxland Wiseman Cargo Services P/L. Later Peter went into business with David Ineson and John Close forming Close Ineson Blaxland Wiseman P/L

Weekly Times - Paper trail worsens biosecurity backlog

Sal Milici, General Manager Trade Policy & Operations at Freight & Trade Alliance said Department figures showed the number of shipments being held at port pending full import declaration (FID) clearance had seen a 24-fold increase, from about 130 in early March, to more than 3200 on March 27. He said the ongoing document assessment delays were leading to significant storage, container detention and related supply chain costs for much of the importing community. READ MORE

In positive news for Australian airfreight exporters, passenger and cargo demand is beginning to ease and input costs show marginal improvements

As of 27 March 2023, US cargo capacity has decreased, with the loss of a combined 17 weekly flights from Melbourne and Sydney into Los Angeles, Houston, and San Francisco.

The Australian Border Force (ABF) has released to industry statistics on the current age brackets of Licensed Customs Broker's in Australia. The extensive data on a state by state basis highlights the very real challenges of an aging customs broker workforce in Australia. With over 50% aged 50 and above, and less than 15% under 40 we have a lot of work ahead of us to attract men and women into our fields of expertise.

CUSTOMS BROKER LICENSING CONDITIONS REVIEW

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has received advice from the Australian Border Force (ABF) that they are currently conducting a review of the additional licence conditions attached to a customs broker licence.

Expansion of Duty Deferral Benefit for Australian Trusted Traders 

The Australian Border Force (ABF) is expanding the Australian Trusted Trader (ATT or Trusted Traders) Duty Deferral benefit to become Duty Deferral Plus. Duty Deferral Plus will further reduce regulatory burden and improve cash flows for eligible ATTs.  READ MORE

To simplify industry interaction with the department and reduce processing times new reporting functionally is now available in the Biosecurity portal (the portal), allowing rural tailgate inspection results to be lodged online. READ MORE
