THE World Trade Organisation (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement is the first multi-lateral agreement to be concluded since the creation of the World Trade Organisation in 1995 and its potential impact cannot be understated. Like many countries, Australian industry is a victim of NTB measures, particularly with our reliance on agri-exports, and some work has been done to quantify this impact. A report from the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) found that NTBs now cost the Australian red meat industry $3.4 billion a year, or 15% of the red meat industry's gross domestic product. Three Adelaide men have been charged with the attempted possession of approximately 10 kilograms of methamphetamine following a joint operation this week.
