FTA / APSA - OUT & ABOUT

Jacanna Customs and Freight

Had a fantastic catch-up with Blair Cosford from Jacanna Customs and Freight !

It's always inspiring to connect with industry leaders like Blair, whose knowledge and passion for the logistics and freight forwarding sector drive innovation and excellence. Looking forward to many more insightful conversations and dealings with the team at Jacanna Freight.

AM Logistics

A very insightful meeting with Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) members in Andrew Cooksley & Martin Packer of AM Logistics (AML).

Amongst other industry issues, our discussions touched on their recent announcement regarding the implementation of a Sea Container Hygiene System (SCHS) in Cambodia to help reduce biosecurity risk on shipments headed for Australia.

The SCHS project, led by Lindsay Rowlson, will see AM Logistics' customers benefit greatly through reduced intervention upon arrival in Australia. With ongoing DAFF compliance, they'll see external container inspections on arrival reduce considerably which will no doubt also lead to reduced container dwell times at the port and reduced costs in quite a few areas.

Victorian Round Table

Last week, Sal Milici, General Manager, Trade Policy and Operations had the privilege of representing Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) / Australian Peak Shippers Association at a Roundtable discussion focusing on the critical importance of maintaining uninterrupted operations at the Port of Melbourne.

It was apparent that our hard working international supply chain members - freight forwarders, customs brokerages, treatment providers or licenced premises are collectively doing a remarkable job keeping Australia's shelves stocked. Importantly this was recognised by both the hosts and other attendees

Key take away was that whilst geopolitical and climatic challenges will continue to test the sector there will likely be plenty of domestic challenges ahead also. (Sal Milici above with John Pesutto, Leader of the Opposition, Victorian Parliament )
New Importer Member

It was an absolute pleasure meeting Barbara Ardiles of BASF the newest addition to our Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) importer community.

As a prominent consumer of Australia's regulators BASF brings invaluable perspectives to the table, and I'm thrilled to see how our collaboration will drive innovation and address pressing issues in the industry.

BORDER

TCs not in web based Tariff

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) members have again raised issues of Tariff Concessions (TCs) not appearing in the online Tariff. The Australian Border Force (ABF) have advised that they are aware of the situation. The ABF confirm that once a Tariff Concession Order (TCO) is made it is input into TARCON, which links to several other associated systems, including the web pages. These systems are aging and from time to time numerous glitches occur. In an effort to remedy the current issue the ABF will instigate a deposit of all available/valid TCOs to the web. Please note that the TAPIN system is in the process of being updated and this should also assist in reducing incorrect or missing information.
