FTA / APSA - ADVOCACY

'Disruption Event' Port of Melbourne

As outlined in member notices late last year, following advocacy from FTA, APSA, the Container Transport Alliance (CTAA) and Shipping Australia Ltd (SAL), the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) determined that the prolonged container supply chain disruptions at the Port of Melbourne (PoM) justifies the notification of a "Disruption Event" under a Voluntary Code of Practice (VCoP).

The next in a series of scheduled meetings will take place this Thursday (4 January 2024) with representation from FTA, APSA, CTAA, SAL, DTP and the Port of Melbourne.

As outlined in our member notice from Friday 29 December 2023, significant disruption exists also at DP World Brisbane (and nationally).

For the duration of what likely to be a prolonged period Protected Industrial Action (PIA), FTA / APSA will advocate for similar mechanisms as VCoP at Port Botany, the Port of Brisbane and Fremantle to ensure shared and accurate information, and support State-based responses to and management of congestion impacts.

FTA / APSA - IN THE MEDIA

Red Sea and Industrial Action

Over the last few weeks, it is the Red Sea hostilities that is particularly capturing the media's attention (most recently front page coverage iThe Age and Sydney Morning Herald) - while making ongoing commentary on this, FTA / APSA has been the predominant voice for the international trade sector drawing attention to domestic supply chain issues and the need for reliable and controlled cost trade gateways at Australian stevedore operations.
