Declaration of a Disruption Event

FTA and APSA have collaborated with Shipping Australia Ltd (SAL) and the Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) calling on the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) to declare a 'disruption event' with the need to immediately convene a Disruption Response Group in line with the framework established in the Voluntary Code of Practice (VCoP). READ MORE

Catching up with Bullocks Freightmasters in Freo - was good see Ivan Bullock in the office and meet with Graeme Gordon on industry issues around Biosecurity. FTA would also like to thank Graeme for his participation and input into the discussions with DAFF on the STEPS initiative.

Christmas & New Year Operating Hours

Freight & Trade Alliance have been collating data from various sources in relation to operating hours for service providers and government agencies over the coming Christmas / New Year period. The information can be seen at the below link, however we remind all members to stay alert to notices from Containerchain and OneStop as well as monitoring the various web sites for changes to what has already been received. MANDATORY CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) MODULE

The Australian Border Force (ABF) have advised under the updated Australian Customs Notice No. 2023/23 that the mandatory CPD module is now available for completion.

ALL licensed customs brokers must complete this mandatory module by 31 March 2024

AIRFREIGHT

Access to Domestic & International Terminals Sydney

Important information on Sydney Airport International and Domestic Terminals traffic changes

Road changes may affect how you access the International and Domestic terminals. The Sydney Gateway flyover on Qantas Drive is now open. The current right turn from Qantas Drive onto Sir Reginald Ansett Drive will be removed.

All traffic heading east from the International terminal towards the Domestic terminal will be directed to the new Twin Arch Bridge. Find out more.

Cargo Operations Snapshot 

The Department has advised the return of the Cargo Operations Snapshot. Members will see a few changes one of which is the addition of a section on Cargo Compliance. When viewing the report we suggest members note the Data Definitions on page 3 of the report.

Cargo Inspections - Perth

Ian Ladner, Assistant DIrector, Cargo Operations Pathway WA has reached out to Freight & Trade Alliance on the below referenced matter.

Can please advise members that aircraft and aircraft parts that are entering Australia as full imports are inspected as cargo by the Cargo Operations Pathway inspectors, not by staff working at the international airport.
 
Scheduling bookings can be done through the Biosecurity Portal and contact to the Cargo Operations Pathway leadership team by emailing Cargo Ops WA - Cargo Managers IGWCargoManagers@aff.gov.au

New Import Control on Vaping Goods

Australian Customs Notice No. 2023/51 - In 2024, using a phased approach, all vaping goods will become prohibited imports under new regulation 5A of the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 (Prohibited Imports Regulations). From 1 January 2024, disposable vapes will be prohibited imports. From 1 March 2024, all other vaping goods will become prohibited imports.Find out more.
