Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
Impact on competition of vertical integration by shipping lines

On Friday 8 September 2023, FTA / APSA received advice from the ACCC seeking feedback direct from FTA / APSA members about their experience with shipping lines, including those who also provide Freight forwarding | Road transport and Rail transport.

Your responses will assist the ACCC understand shipping and freight markets, including any impact on competition from vertical integration. Read more and complete the survey HERE

Proposed changes to Customs Broker Licensing conditions

The Australian Border Force (ABF) has been undertaking a review of conditions on customs broker licenses. Whilst the initial submission by FTA, incorporating previously supplied member feedback, has been incorporated into the revised summary more needs to be done. Meeting with Assistant Commissioner

John Park | FTA was privileged to be invited to meet with Chris Waters, Ass. Commissioner - West, Australian Border Force today 26 September. An opportunity to discuss the current international trade scene and the interactions between our members and the ABF. 

Some of the more current topics were the Customs brokers license review, 77G depots, the ageing licensed broker community and the simplified trade system. Also discussed was the FTA submission to the Productivity Commission's review of Australia's Maritime Logistics System. FTA look forward to ongoing discussions.

CTAA - AFL Grand Final Lunch

Sal Milici | FTA was privileged to host the FTA table at the annual Container Transport Alliance Australia  Grand Final Luncheon. Another great event run Neil Chambers with AFL Legend Tony Shaw providing an inspirational and hilarious insight into his long and esteemed career.

CONTINUED BIOSECURITY COMPETENCY (CBC) - OPEN NOW!!!

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has issued Industry Advice Notice 122/2023 with key dates and information for the 2023-24 CBC.

The CBC pre-recorded webinar will be made available on the department's Learnhub platform from Wednesday 6 September 2023 and must be completed by Wednesday 18 October 2023.

Please NOTE it is essential that you log in and set up your Learnhub account prior the session goes live and  complete the topic "Introduction to Learnhub" before September's scheduled activity.

 


MANDATORY CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) MODULE

The Australian Border Force (ABF) have advised under the updated Australian Customs Notice No. 2023/23 that the mandatory CPD module is now available for completion.

ALL licensed customs brokers must complete this mandatory module by 31 March 2024

The Department has advised industry that the Cargo Snapshot is currently under review for suitability and context.
