Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) have received notice from Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal (FACT) of an intention to change Landside and Ancillary Charges, effective 1 January 2027.
Official notices received for all reviewed charges are as follows:
Terminal Landside Charges - 1 Jan 2027 Empty Park VBS Pricing - 1 Jan 2027 FACT Storage Charges - 1 Jan 2027
Following is the rationale for the changes as indicated by FACT: | Afternoon All, FACT has recently completed a review of its landside charges which are assessed once each year, in accordance with the National Voluntary Guidelines for Landside Stevedore and Empty Container Park Charges ("Guidelines"). FACT acknowledges and supports the Guidelines and the need for clear protocols for notification and communication on increases to existing, or the introduction of new, charges for the handling of containerised cargo at Australian ports. Our focus at FACT remains meeting the infrastructure and service needs of the containerised supply chain in South Australia and supporting the facilitation of trade by optimising those supply chains to deliver the most capable, effective and sustainable service. The annual review of landside pricing is undertaken to ensure that FACT can continue to provide effective landside services that meet, and respond to, the needs of our customers now and into the future. Any increases are implemented with caution and applied to ensure that our operations meet the demands and service level requirements of all our customers. FACT's landside charges are necessary to support the maintenance, property and operational costs incurred in providing our landside operations and enables the recapitalisation of the equipment, technology and infrastructure required to ensure FACT can meet the capability and capacity required by our customers. Consistent with broader industry, FACT continues to experience operating cost pressures, with increases across the cost base in excess of inflationary indexes, particularly with respect to labour, fuel, energy and property costs. FACT is in delivery of, a significant capital investment program of works to ensure it can maintain landside service delivery standards to the industry and respond to the rapidly changing demands of our customers and a modern supply chain. In recent years, FACT has invested significantly to enhance landside operations, with further investments planned over the short-term. The investments being made are designed to support service capability, reliability and sustainability of our operations through the following key projects: - Gate infrastructure and system upgrades – New terminal gate systems using the latest technology to streamline truck entry, enhance safety, and efficiently handle High Productivity Vehicles and future landside growth demands.
- Terminal Operating System and additional comprehensive technology upgrades – Material investment in improving the operating systems to deliver enhanced functionality, and visibility to our landside customers.
- Civil development works and other landside services – Development of the terminal's pavement, roadways, access corridors and capacity enabling FACT to operate efficiently, facilitate growth in demand and maintain consistency in service levels.
- Investment in new Automated Rubber Tyre Gantry cranes - FACT is assessing a transition to electric Automated Rubber Tyre Gantry cranes, reinforcing our long-term commitment to a sustainable, high-quality supply chain for South Australia.
