WEBINAR

Join Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) for the next FTA/APSA Global Shipping Insights webinar.

Container shipping is entering the final months of 2026 with an unusual mix of abundant vessel capacity, persistent congestion, weak schedule reliability and continued geopolitical uncertainty.

In Episode 14, we will unpack the latest FTA/APSA Shipping Report and examine what is happening across the major container trades, including the changing rate environment, disruption across North Asia, developments in the Red Sea and Suez Canal, and what all of this means for Australian importers and exporters.

What we'll cover

  • Freight rates and market conditions
    • The latest global, intra-Asia and Australia-bound rate movements, carrier rate restorations and the forces likely to influence pricing through the remainder of 2026 and into the new year.
  • China congestion and schedule reliability
    • Congestion and disruption across major North Asian gateways, including Shanghai and Ningbo, and how late vessels, bunching and missed windows are flowing through to Australian services. Recent reporting puts global schedule reliability at 49.9% in August, with late vessels averaging 6.81 days behind schedule.
  • Capacity: plenty of ships, but is it usable?
    • Why growing global fleet capacity does not necessarily translate into reliable capacity for shippers, and how congestion, blank sailings, network changes and schedule recovery continue to affect available space.
  • Red Sea, Suez and Middle East disruption
    • The gradual return of some container services through the Red Sea and Suez Canal, continuing security risks and what changing routings could mean for capacity, transit times, fuel costs and freight markets. Recent market reporting says some alliance and MSC vessels are moving back towards Red Sea routings, although renewed security escalation remains a risk.
  • Australia: ports, terminals and landside pressure
    • Why relatively modest vessel queues at Australian ports do not necessarily mean the supply chain is running smoothly, with late and bunched arrivals potentially creating pressure across terminals, transport operations, equipment and delivery planning.
  • Trade and regulatory developments
    • Key international trade and regulatory developments affecting freight, shipping and Australian supply chains.
  • Air Cargo
    • The latest air cargo capacity and demand indicators as the market moves through the traditional Q4 peak.
