Texel Air Australasia (Texel Air) has signed on to operate its charter air cargo services from Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport's 24-hour Cargo Precinct, which is set to launch soon, with the first commercial freighters coming in for landing on Sunday 26 July.

WSI CEO Simon Hickey said he was thrilled to welcome Texel Air to Sydney's new global gateway and state-of-the-art cargo hub that will boost the city's air cargo capacity significantly, creating new jobs and opportunities for businesses to reach new global markets.

"We are mere weeks away from opening Western Sydney International's Cargo Precinct and we're delighted that will now include Texel Air that has the next-generation capability and capacity to deliver excellent air cargo and logistics services," he said.

"Texel Air will join our top-tier Cargo Terminal Operators including Qantas Freight, Menzies Aviation and dnata Cargo as another valued partner for the launch of the hub this month.

"Both exporters and importers will benefit from our integrated Cargo Precinct's 24-hour capacity, dedicated access via the recently upgraded Northern Road, and proximity to key freight and logistics hubs in Kemps Creek and developing industrial sites across the Aerotropolis.

"Texel Air's fleet of Boeing 737-800BCFs is well positioned to support those customers – thereby strengthening services for its anchor domestic partners that move freight around the nation each week while offering international charter capability to help drive more access to lucrative global markets."

Texel Air Founder and Chairman, John Chisholm, said the Western Sydney International platform aligned strongly with the company's operating model and long-term growth plans.

"Western Sydney International is a transformational piece of infrastructure for Australian air cargo that will enable consistent, reliable 24-hour operations, and Texel Air is well positioned to support it by providing flexible, aircraft-on-demand capacity that complements existing freight networks and strengthens overall supply chain resilience," he said.

"We'll be able to respond quickly to customer demand, regular freight flows, and time-critical shipments, which is exactly what a 24-hour cargo precinct enables. WSI also gives Texel Air a platform to scale charter and scheduled support services in and out of Sydney with far greater efficiency than legacy airports."

WSI is on track to begin air cargo services from 26 July 2026 with passenger services taking off from 25 October 2026.

Like everything at WSI, the 24-hour Cargo Precinct is built for growth. While stage one will launch in July, the precinct has capacity to expand significantly over the years ahead, in line with the needs of consumers and businesses and associated market demands.
Western Sydney International Airport will also feature prominently at the upcoming Australia & New Zealand Shipping & Logistics Conference, with Ali Webster, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Western Sydney International Airport, delivering a keynote address on the development of Sydney's new 24-hour airport and its role in transforming regional and national trade and logistics.

The keynote will explore infrastructure planning, connectivity to road and rail networks, and the airport's potential to drive economic growth and improve supply chain efficiency. It will be followed by an expert panel examining how the freight and logistics industry will operate across Sydney's two international airports, including strategies for efficiency, connectivity and capacity management.

The discussion will also consider the broader Bradfield precinct and its role in supporting integrated supply chains, future trade growth and new opportunities for industry.
