Qantas Freight - Statement regarding Sydney Freight Terminal delays

Tuesday, June 23, 2026

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) have received numerous reports from members of delays at the Qantas Freight CTO in Sydney. FTA/APSA have communicated industry concerns directly with Qantas Freight senior management and sought advice on measures being implemented to address the issues.

Qantas Freight has acknowledged that it is experiencing operational delays at its Sydney terminal and has advised that a range of measures are being implemented to support recovery and improve freight flows.

According to Qantas Freight, these measures include resolving equipment issues, increasing resources, analysing freight movements throughout the terminal, providing additional collection opportunities for customers, and implementing initiatives to improve throughput and minimise delays.

Following is a formal statement received from Qantas Freight:

Statement from Qantas Freight

We are currently experiencing delays due to temporary operational issues at our Sydney terminal. We know this can be frustrating and apologise to impacted customers.

A range of initiatives are being implemented to support recovery.

The machinery requiring attention was escalated to the highest level with our supplier, whose senior management attended on site to resolve the issue. This has resulted in the equipment returning to full operation.

Resourcing has been bolstered with further uplift continuing to ensure ongoing viability. In parallel, the full movement of freight through the terminal has been analysed in detail to ensure that any emerging blockages are identified quickly and addressed.

We are also working closely with customers to enable additional pickup windows as part of an end to end approach to keep freight moving. Further options to concurrently break down freight are being progressed to support throughput and minimise delays.

Our teams remain fully committed to restoring normal operations as quickly as possible, and we appreciate your patience as these improvements continue to take effect.

We will share updates as they become available.

FTA/APSA will continue to monitor the situation and welcomes feedback from members experiencing ongoing delays or operational impacts.
