Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) alongside various airport partners is set to host hundreds of students and job seekers over the next two days at its state-of-the-art terminal to help connect people with future skills, training and aviation career opportunities supported by Sydney's 24-hour gateway.
WSI's Aviation Career Info Sessions aim to connect people with future employers across the airport precinct that will support jobs at opening and over the year ahead, while also helping students and job seekers learn about pathways into employment and aviation-specific training providers. ?
Various airport partners will host information stalls and present to attendees over the two-day event, including Airservices Australia, Lagardère AWPL, Australian Federal Police, dnata Catering & Retail, ACES Security, Star Aviation, Wilson Parking Australia, Western Sydney University (WSU), The College at WSU, TAFE NSW, Training Services NSW and Seven Hils Vocational Innovation Centre.
WSI CEO Simon Hickey said the careers sessions would bring together prospective employers, training providers, students, and those keen to pursue a new role or consider a career switch in the diverse and rewarding aviation sector.
"We're delighted to host hundreds of students, employers and future employees this week so they can learn, connect, and perhaps even apply for a new role with one of WSI's diverse airport partners that will continue to create meaningful opportunities over the years ahead," he said.
"By the time WSI is managing up to 10 million annual passengers in the 2030s, the airport will require up to 8,500 jobs to support its daily operations.
"While the countdown to our October passenger opening continues each week, the career opportunities at WSI are a long-term prospect and people can be confident that jobs across the airport precinct, with the many and varied partners that entails, will continue to evolve and grow for decades to come.
"As the airport grows over time, so too will the number of airport partners and the staff they'll require to meet the increasing volume of travellers using WSI, so now is the perfect time to also consider skills and training opportunities that will help equip people for these future roles."
The Aviation Career Info Sessions form part of WSI's broader commitment to education, skills and workforce development across Western Sydney, complementing initiatives including the Soaring Scholarships program; First Nations Taking Off school to work program, industry immersion experiences and ongoing partnerships with education providers including Western Sydney University that supports the delivery of an aviation micro-credential.
