NSW Ports - Operational Notice: Simblist Road Works and Access Changes at Port Botany

Monday, April 20, 2026

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) would like to share the following update regarding works at Port Botany over the coming weeks.

NSW Ports have engaged Northshore Paving to complete the Simblist Road Pavement Rehabilitation Project; a deep pavement reconstruction on Simblist Road in the main southbound incoming lane leading into the port area - from the intersection of Bumborah Point Road through to Gate B60 (stage 2 works).

To enable port traffic to continue passing by the construction area for the duration of the project and create a safe work zone, a vehicle contraflow arrangement will first be constructed from Bumborah Point Road (Stage 1 works) by removing a section of the median of the road.

  • Stage 1 (contra flow creation) work is scheduled to commence Wednesday 29th April and will take 1-2 days. Traffic controls 24/7 and work in daytime hours.
  • Stage 2 (main works and contraflow) is scheduled to commence Sunday 3rd May and will take approximately 7 days. Traffic controls 24/7 and work in daytime hours.

Stage 1 - Traffic Island Removal Works for contra flow

Stage 2 – Pavement Rehab Works with contra flow traffic in place around Work Area 24/7

**Prince of Wales Drive is closed for vehicle traffic during stage 2 – pedestrian access still open**

Key points to note:

  • VMS boards will be placed into prominent positions on the roads leading to the work area for public notification this week.
  • NSW Ports holds all necessary approvals in place for this work which is subject to holding Road Occupancy Licence (ROL) with TfNSW, Works Authorisation from TfNSW, approval of TC plans with the TfNSW Traffic Management Centre, various stages of Road Safety Audits, insurances and work safety plans.
  • The contra flow arrangement leading into the Simblist Road main port entry road will remain in situ post completion of the project and available to be used in case of any traffic or port incident. Removable flexible bollards will be installed in the contraflow median area of Bumborah Point Road for future removal and for implementation of the arrangement.

The work programme is subject to weather and progress.
