Who does this notice affect?
This notice is of relevance to importers, manufacturers, suppliers, customs brokers, agents and associated biosecurity industry participants involved in the importation of inorganic (chemical and mined) fertilisers into Australia.
What has changed?
We are updating the import conditions and policy for inorganic (mineral or chemical) fertilisers. The new policy, associated documents and a summary of changes are now available to view on our webpage: Chemical and mined fertiliser.
The updated import policy and import conditions will come into effect on 30 April 2026.
Goods loaded on or after 30 April 2026 must meet the updated import conditions.
Key changes in pre-load requirements are identified in the summary of changes document on the website.
Goods either currently on water and/or loaded prior to 30 April 2026 will be assessed against current import conditions as at the publication of this industry notice and will be managed accordingly.
Accredited offshore providers seeking to expand recognition to cover bulk and containerised product, consistent with the new policy, are encouraged to contact the department.
