DAFF - IIAN 48-2026: Biosecurity Portal – military inspections

Who does this notice affect?

Approved arrangements operators, customs brokers, importers, and freight forwarders who will be required to book and manage requests for import inspections using the Biosecurity Portal.

What has changed?

From 23 March 2026, the Biosecurity Portal will be updated to include military inspection types for Defence, military importers and brokers to use for lodgement.

Military inspection types will all have a 'Military' prefix enabling easy use and appropriate selection.

This change clarifies the type of inspections required for military goods and conveyances at the time of booking, enabling more accurate identification, management and reporting of military specific inspections and supporting more efficient operational planning and oversight.

To avoid unnecessary delays and assist the department in managing resource allocation, military importers and brokers are encouraged to verify appropriate type of inspection prior to lodgement.
