FTA / APSA submission to the Select Committee on Productivity in Australia
Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) have lodged a detailed submission to the Senate Select Committee on Productivity in Australia.
Following our
recent meeting
with Committee members in Canberra, the submission outlines the urgent structural reforms required to address escalating supply chain costs, declining port productivity, regulatory inefficiencies, and emerging border security risks that are materially undermining Australia's national productivity and trade competitiveness.

The Australian Border Force's Mandatory ABF CPD Module for the customs broker licensing period ending 31 March 2026

You should download your ABF Certificate of Completion and keep as a record. This course will NOT appear on your FTA CPD Attainment Statement. This module will provide you with 3 CPD points in Stream B towards you required total of 30 CPD points for the period. Maximum 9 CPD points in Stream B should be completed on our MYFTACPD training platform.

East - West Rail Outage
We have received the below advice from
Western Roads Federation
(
WRF
) as to the rail outage currently being expereinced and actions beign taken
East - West rail out since Sunday 22 February
Earliest expected opening this Sunday 1 March
More rain is forecast in SA which is likely to impact the re opening
Eyre Highway remains open, however a surge in road freight is occuring
WRF are in ongoing discussions with NT and SA government agencies and emergency services .

Flinders Port Holdings announces funding for Mission to Seafarers At the Seafarer Welfare Conference (Wellbeing at Sea) held in Adelaide from 17–18 February 2026, Flinders Port Holdings (FPH),
together with the Mission to Seafarers, announced significant funding towards enhanced crew welfare initiatives
"FPH are proud to be strengthening the vital work of Mission to Seafarers. This funding will enable more welfare initiatives to be implemented across ports, ensuring that this essential industry and its crews are further supported," said Carl Kavina, General Manager, Flinders Ports..

Fremantle Ports Berth 7 Maintenance -
26 February – 10 March 2026
Fremantle Ports wish to advise of the upcoming essential berth maintenance at Fremantle Port's container berths: Works at Berth 7 will include crane rail replacement, refurbishment of selected mooring points, and structural repairs to sections of the wharf deck and supporting infrastructure, both above and below the wharf. These works are critical to maintaining the long-term safety and operational reliability of the berth.
The reduced quay length over this period may affect vessel scheduling and processing times at Patrick terminal.
We are committed to minimising disruptions and will keep you informed of any changes.

SEA FREIGHT
Major boost for non-defence shipbuilding in WA
THE FEDERAL government is to spend an initial $30 million to support non-defence shipbuilding at the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) at Henderson, south of Perth.
The funding will deliver new common-use infrastructure, supporting non-defence industry users continued operations at the AMC.
It is expected to support around 10,000 WA jobs and contribute billions to the state's economy.

Major drug shipment foiled, eight jailed over failed import
EIGHT men have been jailed following an international investigation into an organised crime syndicate's failed plot to ship more than six tonnes of?methamphetamine into Australia.
The illegal venture involved four separate consignments sent from Canada, bound for Australia, and a clandestine drug lab operation in Melbourne. The men will be imprisoned for a combined 95 years and seven months.

Ro-ro vessel linked to Adelaide drug bust
AUTHORITIES have seized more than 28kg of cocaine concealed within a luxury bus after Australian Border Force (ABF) officers examined a ro-ro vessel berthed at Outer Harbor north-west of the Adelaide CBD.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) was alerted after border force officers conducted a forensic search based on intelligence-led targeting.
Technology such as videoscopes, and detector dogs deployed at the site, identified several one-kilogram packages of a white powdered substance hidden behind a television inside a luxury bus.
