Information on proposed industrial action

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) wish to advise members of a potential industrial matter at Fremantle Ports that may be relevant to vessel operations over the Christmas period.

FTA and APSA have been made aware of notified proposed industrial action by Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) members employed under the Fremantle Ports Operations and Services Enterprise Agreement. These roles primarily support mooring and maintenance activities. At this stage, the actions are notified rather than confirmed, and any operational impact will depend on whether the bans are implemented and how vessel schedules align.

Discussions between Fremantle Ports, the workforce, and the union are ongoing.

Please see the notice received directly from Fremantle Ports below, which is provided in full and unchanged.

You may have seen a media post regarding proposed industrial action for the workforce covered by the Fremantle Ports Operations and Services Enterprise Agreement (primarily covering mooring and maintenance operations). Following that post, we wanted to provide you with a direct update.

We have received a formal notice of potential industrial action, with the earliest possible commencement being from 0530 on the 26th of December. At this stage, we are well progressed in our discussions with both the workforce and the union, and we remain hopeful of reaching an agreement ahead of that date.

We will continue to keep you informed as developments occur.

FTA have discussed this matter with Fremantle Ports directly and note that they remain hopeful of a resolution in the coming day.

Members are encouraged to monitor the FTA website for further updates as they become available.
