Cargo Status API – A modern communication method for accessing cargo status data is now available
The Digital Trade Accelerator Program (DTAP), modernises how industry interacts with the Departmental systems by launching the first Trade Data Application Programming Interface (API) – the Cargo Status API for accessing cargo status data.
The Cargo Status API enables a seamless integration with the Integrated Cargo System (ICS), for organisations with existing access to ICS.
Key features include:
· Secure access to cargo status data in near real-time.
· Improved efficiency and greater flexibility.
Use of the API requires agreement to the Terms of Use, which outline legal requirements, security obligations and usage conditions for accessing the Trade Data API services.
The Cargo Status API capability does not replace existing provisions enabling use of the current Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) protocol. EDI will continue to be available for trade transactions electronically.
Legislation The Customs (Information Technology Requirements) Amendment (API Project and Other Measures) Determination 2025 (IT Determination) is available at: https://www.legislation.gov.au/F2025L00744/asmade/text.
