Sal Milici and Paul Zalai with Ryan Smith from Amazon

With Sal Milici in Sydney for the Care-Factor Ball it was a great opportunity to join with Paul Zalai and meet up with some FTA members. They enjoyed insightful conversations with Stephanie Scali from Nick Scali Limited and Ryan Smith from Amazon exploring challenges and opportunities across compliance, biosecurity, and logistics.

Day 2 in Sydney allowed Paul and Sal to catch up with more valued Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) members. A great catch up with Michael Clague and Christian Pavia from Henning Harders — covering everything from customs brokerage to freight and landside transport challenges and charges. Also appreciated the time with the team from TT Club to explore ways we can help them connect with our members on all things cargo insurance, risk mitigation and supply chain resilience. DCN - WA trade ball delivers big for youth charity

THERE'S something truly special about the way Western Australia's shipping and logistics sector shows up, not just for the business of trade, but for each other, and for our community. The event, led by the powerhouse trio of Sherie Le Brun (Direct Couriers), Emma Cribbin (Navia Freight) and John Park (Freight & Trade Alliance), has fast become a highlight on the WA shipping calendar.

More than a glitzy evening, the Ball is a true example of what happens when our industry comes together with a shared purpose, to give back. READ MORE

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the successful fund raising, but also to the excitement in the room. A big thank you to our platinum event sponsor BluePrint Global and bronze sponsors -  Direct CouriersLogihireWisetech Global and Stone Freight Solutions and Media sponsors Daily Cargo News and ImportExportTV for your support.

Tobacco takedown: New data reveals a historic high in illicit hauls

New data shows the Australian Border Force (ABF) intercepted record volumes of illicit tobacco and vapes last financial year, averaging 120 detections at the border every day.

From 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, the ABF made 23,097 illicit tobacco detections, seizing 2.53 billion cigarette sticks and 435.46 tonnes of loose-leaf tobacco. This equates to a total of over 2,091 tonnes of illicit tobacco products seized and prevented an estimated $4.36 billion in duty evaded across the financial year.

These record-breaking figures represent a 320 per cent increase in cigarette stick seizures and a 67 per cent increase in total tobacco seized compared to four years ago (FY2020-21).
