FTA / APSA - ADVOCACY
Federal Election Outcome and Ministerial Stability
Following the Federal Election on 3 May, the Albanese Government has been re-elected, with the Second Albanese Ministry officially sworn in on 13 May 2025.
A notable feature of the new ministry is the continuity across key portfolios, with the following relevant Ministers retaining their roles:
Senator Don Farrell
– Minister for Trade and Tourism
Tony Burke
– Minister for Home Affairs
Julie Collins
– Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
Catherine King
– Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government
This ministerial stability is significant. Typically, a change in Minister can result in a prolonged period of transition. Continuity allows us to build on existing relationships and maintain momentum in our advocacy efforts.
In parallel, Treasurer Jim Chalmers has indicated that improving productivity will be a central focus of the Government's next term, particularly as inflationary pressures begin to ease.
We now await the opening of the 48th Parliament, expected in late June, where we will continue to engage proactively on behalf of members to progress a broad range of policy and regulatory priorities.
FTA / APSA - OUT & ABOUT
FTA meets with Ports Australia
Last week
Amanda Bradfield, Head of International Freight & Logistics - FTA | APSA
took the opportunity to catch up with
Mike Gallacher GAICD
, CEO of
Ports Australia
whilst he was in Perth.
Mike has been a driving force in raising awareness about the crucial role ports play in our supply chain - and his passion for strong policy and smarter infrastructure really shines through.
They chatted all things ports and the greater supply chain and also shared life experiences.
Did you know that Ports Australia is the national voice for our ports? They are doing amazing work bringing together government, industry, and community to ensure our ports are sustainable, secure, and, of course, future ready.

BORDER
ACROSS BORDERS
Many thanks to the
Russell Wiese, Director - CGT Law
for his commentary in the latest edition of the Across Borders magazine.
"Related to due diligence, the ABF gets worried when the customs broker is not able to communicate directly with the importer. This is not uncommon as a freight forwarder may discourage, if not prohibit, such contact
.
