2025-2026 FTA ONLINE CPD & CBC TRAINING PACKAGES

FTA offers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continued Biosecurity Competency (CBC) training online for the customs broker licencing period 1 April to 31 March each year. The cost of an online training package is $150 (excl. gst) for member organisations with bulk discounts available on a sliding scale. New content is now ready for your completion.

Licensed customs brokers not employed by a corporate FTA member, can purchase an Individual Membership which includes online CPD & CBC training for the cost of only $300 (excl. gst) per customs broker licensing period.

A big week in Melbourne for the international trade and logistics 

Sal Milici, General Manager Trade Policy & Operations welcomed Tom Jensen, General Manager Freight Policy & Operations to Melbourne for the Depot Forum on tomorrow and the Border and Biosecurity Compliance Conference across Friday and Saturday as well as some member visits. 

A productive session with Andrew Newman Director of Policy and Strategy at Freight Victoria, Department of Transport and Planning discussing shared priorities across the landside logistics interface.


A valuable catch-up with Julie-Anne Miller of Bega Group, one of Australia's most iconic food brands, major dairy exporter and proud Australian Peak Shippers Association Inc member.

 

We covered the urgent need for reform on Terminal Access Charges and the broader review of Part X of the Competition and Consumer Act

DCN - Fears election A "Missed Opportunity" for AUS Maritime

Sal Milici, General Manager Trade Policy & Operations  - FTA | APSA provided commentary to a recent DCN article on the Australian maritime industry.
 

Sal Milici, said there were "several critical issues that should be front and centre in any election campaign", highlighting Part X of the Competition and Consumer Act that regulates international shipping.

 

Part X aims to ensure exporters (and to a lesser extent, importers) have continued access to outwards liner cargo shipping services with internationally competitive freight rates.

Anti-Dumping Commission

David Latina, Commissioner  - Anti-Dumping Commission has advised that Ms Aggie Marek has been appointed 

to the position of Deputy Commissioner, Strategy and Operations, Anti-Dumping Commission. Ms Marek commenced with the Commission on 28 April 2025, she was previously with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.  She brings more than 20 years of experience across a range of regulatory, investigation, policy, and enforcement roles.

The Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) is the designated peak shipper body granted status by the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport under Part X of the Consumer & Competition Act to represent the interests of Australian shippers generally in relation to liner cargo shipping services. The following notice has been received and is available to members' reference.

ABN Fraud Australian Border Force update

Australian Border Force (ABF) has communicated to Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) an evolution in the ABN Fraud "piggyback" methodology.

As as has been detailed in recent training and correspondence, a frequently used ABN fraud method involves the registration of a domain name similar to the company or sole trader that is being used in the attempted import. READ MORE

ICS Planned Outrage

Please be advised that the ICS will be unavailable for a 5 hour period between Saturday 31 May 2025 and Sunday 01 June 2025. The outage will be from 23:00 on Saturday 31 May 2025 until 04:00 on Sunday 01 June 2025 and is necessary for system maintenance. Please note that UI will experience a confirmed outage and there is a potential outage for EDI messaging.

Industry clients should make arrangements to have cargo cleared outside of these hours.
