DAFF - IIAN 130-2025: Virtual information sessions for upcoming changes to khapra beetle treatments for imports to Australia

Wednesday, April 23, 2025

23 April 2025

Who does this notice affect?

This notice affects importers, freight forwarders, biosecurity industry participants, accredited persons operating under the department's approved arrangement class 19, National Plant Protection Organisations (NPPOs) and pre-border biosecurity treatment providers.

What is changing?

As advised in IIAN 111-2025, we are changing our current pre-export treatment and certification requirements for managing khapra beetle in high-risk plant products and sea containers imported from khapra beetle target risk countries.

We will be hosting virtual information sessions outlining important information on the new treatment and certification requirements.

If you are involved in the import of rice, beans, dried chilli, and whole cumin and coriander seed from a khapra beetle target risk country, these changes will impact you. It is highly recommended that you attend to ensure you can comply with new requirements.

What the sessions will cover

There will be two sessions:

  • SESSION 1: For offshore treatment providers and certifying government bodies (NPPOs)

The focus is on how treatments must be applied to comply with updated requirements and why this is necessary. This includes packaging of plant products, supervision obligations for certain treatment providers, and the associated phytosanitary declarations.

  • SESSION 2: For Australian importers and brokers

The focus is on the key changes to import conditions, the reasons behind them, and their impact on your import supply chains. The session will outline the actions you need to take to stay compliant.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions during each session.?
