Ports of Dampier, Ashburton, Varanus Island and Cape Preston West are closed

Tropical Low 11U

As at 21.23 on Saturday, 18 January 2025, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) advises Tropical Low 11U is continuing to develop, while it tracks to the west southwest, remaining well offshore and parallel to the Pilbara coast.

The system is expected to reach category 1 tropical cyclone intensity during Sunday.

The system is expected to continue to intensify during Monday and is forecast to intensify into a Category 3 cyclone. By this time, the cyclone is expected to be located well to the west of Exmouth and continuing to the southwest, away from the coast. 

Pilbara Ports has closed the Ports of Dampier, Ashburton, Varanus Island and Cape Preston West as at 20:00 on Saturday, 18 January 2025.

All recreational vessel owners must safely secure their vessels for cyclonic conditions.
