DCN 16/4/2024 - FTA ISSUES BIOSECURITY LEVY PLAN

EXTRACT:

In a formal submission to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee, FTA and APSA suggested importers and exporters paid $1.36 billion in TACs over the last three years, with $505.5 million paid in the 2023 calendar year.

"The scourge of TACs, combined with the biosecurity processing delays, is resulting in rapidly escalating supply chain costs directly adding to inflationary pressures and fuelling the cost-of-living crisis," FTA director and APSA secretariat Paul Zalai said..

FTA / APSA - TRAINING & EVENTS

RENEWAL OF CUSTOMS BROKER LICENCES - ABF UPDATE

The Australian Border Force (ABF) have issued ACN 2024/10 to advise industry of the process for updating their Customs Broker Licenses for the period 1 July 2024 thru 30 June 2027. Please ensure your details are up to date and when received you action the renewal paperwork promptly by the deadline. READ MORE.

2024-2025 FTA ONLINE CPD & CBC TRAINING PACKAGES

FTA offers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continued Biosecurity Competency (CBC) training online for the customs broker licencing period 1 April to 31 March each year. The cost of an online training package is $150 (excl. gst) for member organisations with bulk discounts available on a sliding scale.

Licensed customs brokers not employed by a corporate FTA member, can purchase an Individual Membership which includes online CPD & CBC training for the cost of only $300 (excl. gst) per customs broker licensing period.

FTA will be transitioning to an upgraded training platform for the new customs broker licensing period. All completion history will be available on the new site. We look forward to launching MYFTACPD with new topics for completion prior to going live. Further details will follow soon.

Sydney AutoStrad Botany Rail Expansion wins Innovation Gong at IPA Awards

Port of Brisbane continue to support growth of supply chain infrastructure with DSV expansion

Port of Brisbane and DSV Air & Sea have turned the sod on the logistics giant's new warehouse and container depot. DSV signed a 10-year lease agreement with PBPL last month for a facility that would allow DSV Air & Sea – already a port tenant – to bring its Brisbane city operations to a central location. READ MORE (story courtesy of the DCN)

Funeral Arrangements - Michael Parker

Further to our notice on 4 April 2024, FTA wish to advise that a cremation service will be held for Michael Parker, CEO Fremantle Ports on Tuesday 23 April at 1000 at Fremantle Cemetery. Please gather at the Carrington Pavilion prior.

Beach Street (Fremantle) Closure

Fremantle Ports stakeholders should be aware that, from today until August, there will be a temporary closure of Beach Street by Main Roads Western Australia. This closure is to allow works to be undertaken in preparation for the new Swan River Crossing. Access to Fremantle Port's Gate 3 will remain unchanged, with cargo and port-related vehicles continuing to have access via the Queen Victoria Street and Beach Street intersection. READ MORE

As communicated on Friday March 8 2024, Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) participated in a briefing hosted by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). One of the outcomes from that meeting was that FTA gave a commitment to work with DAFF, members and fellow industry colleagues to examine methodologies for a more measured compliance regime and other pragmatic strategies to increase the uptake of AEPCOMM.  TAKE SURVEY

Cargo Operations Snapshot 

The Department has advised the return of the Cargo Operations Snapshot. Members will see a few changes one of which is the addition of a section on Cargo Compliance. When viewing the report we suggest members note the Data Definitions on page 3.

On Thursday 11 April, 2024 - Commissioner Michael Outram APM  delivered a speech at the Sir Richard Williams Foundation event at the National Gallery of Australia. Depot penalties - FTA seeking member feedback for informed compliance program

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) is receiving advice from members indicating an alarming increase in the number of Australian Border Force (ABF) Infringement Notices being issued against Depot facilities licensed in accordance with Sec 77G of the Customs Act. FTA is seeking further feedback from members with details of the Infringement Notices to ascertain trends in the ABF focus and areas where concerted informed compliance attention is required.
