December 2023

CEO's message

Image
Welcome to this month's edition of Port of Brisbane News.

While the end of 2023 is fast approaching, the Port of Brisbane has been a hive of activity across all aspects of our operations.

Congratulations to our long-term customer, DP World, who turned the sod on their new container park development on Fisherman Islands last week.

It was fantastic to head out west to Toowoomba and Goondiwindi earlier this month to meet with customers and supply chain partners, while back in Brisbane we welcomed the iconic Disney Wonder on her maiden call to the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal.

Our Infrastructure team is more than halfway through a 'Steel Pipe Wrapping Program' to help ensure the longevity of our wharves as part of our broader asset management work.

Finally, I wish you and your loved ones a very safe and happy holiday season.

PBPL team heads west

Every year we meet with supply chain stakeholders, customers and community partners in Toowoomba and Goondiwindi  to connect with them and discuss issues of importance to their operations and communities. A particular thank you to our supply chain partner, Namoi Cotton, for facilitating a tour through their local gin in Goondiwindi.

We have also been a proud sponsor of the annual 'Bush to Port' Race Day and Community Fireworks event for many years and were delighted to again support these events this year, which brings the Goondiwindi and surrounding communities together.

Sod turned on DP World facility

We were delighted to join Logos as they turned the sod on a new 10.4ha site on Fisherman Islands, for customer DP World, which will soon become the new Port of Brisbane container park for DP World.

Once fully operational, the purpose-built container park will provide storage and handling services for full and empty containers.

Congratulations to all involved in this project, including the project's Principal Contractor, McNab.

Disney Wonder sails into Brisbane

We were delighted to welcome the Disney Wonder to the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT) as part of her inaugural Australian season.

The arrival of Disney Cruise Line into Brisbane is a fantastic show of confidence in the BICT and the opportunities for cruising in Brisbane and Queensland.

And with every cruise ship call contributing almost $1 million to the Queensland economy, cruising continues to support jobs and the broader tourism industry.

We wish everyone on board a cruise this festive season safe travels and a wonderful holiday!

Property development update

Construction continues across the Port on a number of customer developments including a warehouse facility for national transport provider and new port customer, Rogers Transport, in our Port West Industrial Estate at Lytton, on track to be completed early 2024.

Works are also continuing on new facilities for long-term customers iORToll and Electrolux.

BCC's newest green bridge

We were delighted to play a part in Brisbane City Council's new Breakfast Creek Green Bridge project, which was assembled at the Port of Brisbane by Principal Contractor, Georgiou Brady Joint Venture, and transported to site last month.

With the average bridge length approximately 80m and the arch height 14m above the deck level, the transportation of the bridge from the Port to Breakfast Creek required significant logistical and operational planning.

Congratulations to Brisbane City Council, Georgiou Brady Joint Venture and all involved.

Steel Pile Wrapping Program underway

Our Infrastructure team is completing a multi-year 'Steel Pile Wrapping Program', to support the long-term durability of our wharves, delivering the works with Principal Contractor, O'Connor Land & Marine.

Over 4000 steel piles form the Port's wharf structures; ensuring the steel piles are protected to help manage corrosion is a key part of maintaining this important infrastructure.

The five-year program is approximately 60% complete and we thank our customers for their understanding while we complete these works.
