CEO's message

Image

Welcome to this month's edition of Port of Brisbane News.

Thank you everyone who attended our Safety 1 Forum last week. It was fantastic to see so many people from the port community and take the time to focus on health and safety for the afternoon.

We've also been delighted to officially welcome Malec to their new warehouse facility on Fisherman Islands and on behalf of PBPL, I'd like to congratulate all involved in the project.

During July, we were pleased to bring together around 100 women from across Brisbane at an event for Women in Infrastructure, as well as working with partners across the port to again participate in Brisbane Open House.

Safety 1 Forum

Almost 200 people from the port community came together last week to talk about the enduring consequences of safety at our annual Safety 1 Forum. Attendees heard from Trav Heaven from Duress and Alan Newey from Chat Safety. Alan shared his experience of a life-changing workplace accident and its enduring impacts, sharing a powerful message to speak up about safety.

Congratulations to Karla O'Brien from Mondiale VGL, who received a Health and Safety Champions Award for her significant efforts and commitment to increasing safety awareness and delivering important safety initiatives at Mondiale VGL's Brisbane operations.

A big thank you to our trade stall holders and demonstrations as well as our event sponsors IOR, Qube, Svitzer, Patrick Terminals and Queensland Bulk Handling. Watch our highlights video here.

Port welcomes New Wilkie Energy

Last month, the first train load from the reopened Wilkie Creek coal mine was received and unloaded at Queensland Bulk Handling. Wilkie Creek was recently purchased and put back into production by New Wilkie Energy (NWE), after closing production in 2013.

PBPL welcomes NWE and congratulates them on their first train load and first export shipment scheduled for this month.

Malec moves in

We were delighted to cut the ribbon on Malec's new container storage and logistics facility on Fisherman Islands in July.

Delivered by principal contractor FKG, the facility comprises a 750sqm workshop, 300sqm office, 38,200sqm of hardstand and a washbay as well as 60kW rooftop solar, recycled water to the washbay, stormwater collection and energy efficient fittings.

The development also included approximately 11,300m3 of concrete from Boral's Envirocrete range, which uses less Portland cement, reducing the project's overall environmental impact during the manufacturing and construction phase.

Congratulations to all involved and welcome, Malec, to your new home!

Bingera Drive works underway

Works have commenced on Bingera Drive to straighten a section of the road and to construct a new 2.6ha storage yard lease site.  The works are anticipated to be completed in November, weather permitting, and the port community will be kept updated of traffic management controls through our Port Alert system. To sign up to receive Port Alerts, please email info@portbris.com.au

BICT Car Park
Extension

We're continuing to invest in the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT), with construction commencing this month to create an additional 340 car parks onsite.

The extra car parking is anticipated to be completed in 2024, weather permitting, with the work to be delivered by Principal Contractor, PPQ.

Once completed, all car parking will continue to be operated by Wilson Parking.  Find out more on our website.

Containers for Change is now at BICT!

Containers for Change collection points are now available at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT). We've partnered with Community Co to collect the bottles, and all funds raised will support our Employee Charity.

At PBPL, we've made a commitment to send zero PBPL-generated waste to landfill by 2030; this is an important step in helping to ensure we achieve this goal.  You can find out more about our Target Zero strategy on our website.

Women in Infrastructure

The women of PBPL took centre stage last month, as we hosted an event for Women in Infrastructure at Customs House last month. The evening bought together around 100 women from companies across Brisbane to discuss careers and leadership within the infrastructure industry and help build their professional networks. Thank you to our guest speakers – Chloé Brayne, Investment Director at CDPQ and PBPL Board Director and Steffany Sinclair, PBPL's EGM People & Performance – who shared their experiences and insights during the evening.

Brisbane Open House

The Port community once again came together to support Brisbane Open House this year, welcoming hundreds of eager visitors to the Port and the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal.  Congratulations also to our customers, Patrick Terminals – Brisbane Autostrad and Svitzer Brisbane Tug Base who also had big crowds of people keen to see how their operations worked.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers across the Port for making this event so successful.
