Stricter prawn import laws

Australians love prawns so much that we imported a staggering 38,000 tonnes last year to meet local demand. To ensure the biosecurity risks of imported prawns are managed, a review of their biosecurity risks was completed. The final report of the review has been released detailing strengthening of some prawn import laws.

$22,000 worth of infringement notices for 4 passengers attempting to smuggle plant products

 
Deliberate attempts to circumvent our biosecurity laws have resulted in $5,500 infringement notices given to 4 different passengers across a 5-day period.

Border Security returns in August

A new season of Border Security – Australia's Front Line will be on air from Wednesday 2 August. The factual reality TV series shows our biosecurity officers working to stop biosecurity risks at the border while educating audiences about Australia's biosecurity system.

New fees and charges for biosecurity and imported food regulatory activities

Our biosecurity system manages the risk of pests and diseases that threaten Australia's environment, agricultural industries and our way of life. On 1 July, we introduced new regulatory fees and charges to align prices with the cost to deliver biosecurity and imported food activities.
