WCO reiterates commitment to combating global illicit trafficking of synthetic drugs

On 7 July 2023, WCO Secretary General Dr. Kunio Mikuriya delivered a recorded statement at the Ministerial-level meeting on the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats, convened by the U.S. Department of State.

In his statement, Secretary General Mikuriya reiterated the commitment of Customs to combating global illicit trafficking of synthetic drugs. He stated, "As the first line of defence at borders, Customs forces around the world have spared no effort in detection and deterrence of synthetic drugs. WCO Members are ready to take strong actions at borders with their partners."

During the meeting, the U.S. Secretary of State Mr. Antony J. Blinken launched the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats. Senior government officials from more than 80 countries participated virtually in the meeting.
