PurposeTo provide advice to licenced livestock exporters and Australian Government accredited veterinarians (AAVs) preparing livestock for export to Indonesia. Key points- The import requirements for feeder, slaughter, breeder and productive cattle and feeder buffalo to Indonesia explicitly require that treatments are administered under the direct supervision of the AAV.
- Direct supervision means that either the AAV administers the treatments themselves and/or the treatments are administered under their direct and immediate physical observation.
- Direct and immediate observation enables the AAV to declare that the treatments have been completed, in accordance with the importing country requirements, with a sufficiently high level of confidence.
- Direct supervision does not allow for treatments to be administered where the AAV cannot directly observe the treatments being administered.
Instructions- AAVs preparing livestock for export must administer any required treatments to the livestock in accordance with the importing country requirements.
- If a protocol requires that treatments were directly supervised by an AAV, the exporter should take steps to satisfy themselves that the AAV either administered the treatments themselves and/or that they were physically present at the time and place where the treatments were administered.
Background This notice does not represent any change to the department's expectations or requirements. Rather, this notice provides unambiguous advice to industry to ensure continued market access.
