Business support following Cyclone Gabrielle

Further assistance is now available to businesses impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle, with Customs able to offer payment plans and to remit late-payments.

"These measures will help to ease some of the financial pressure, offering duty payers who agree payment plans with Customs relief from interest and penalties," said Craig Chitty, Group Manager Revenue and Assurance.

Increase to compensatory interest rate from 9 May 2023

The rate of compensatory interest payable under sections 154 and 161 of the Customs and Excise Act 2018 will change with effect on and after 9 May 2023.

The interest rate will change from 9.21% to 10.39%.

A reminder that Temporary Import Entries are due to expire

In January 2022, Customs issued a notice that the COVID-19 extension for vessels that were in New Zealand on a C4G/Temporary Import Entry, would conclude on 30th of June 2022.

Customs accepted at the time of that reminder notice, that under the COVID-19 environment there were a number of vessels that were unable to comply. Customs took this into consideration and the date was extended for a further twelve months.

The final date for the export of vessels is 30 June 2023.
