As outlined in the chart below, data provided by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) shows that shipments awaiting assessment has increased substantially in recent weeks.
As highlighted in the Freight and Trade Alliance (FTA) and Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) submission to the Senate Inquiry into the adequacy of Australia's Biosecurity measures and response preparedness, these delays result in significant storage, container detention and related supply chain costs.
Whilst far from ideal, an option exists to request (at additional cost) overtime document assessment processing as outlined in Industry Advice Notice 73-2023
This matter has again been referred to departmental executive for remedial action.
