Westport Program Update

The WA State Government continues its long-term program to investigate, plan and build a future port in Kwinana with integrated road and rail transport networks under the Westport Program.

Landside Logistics Opportunity Study (LLOS):

In October 2022, the Westport Program team completed its Landside Logistics Opportunity Study (LLOS).  The LLOS considered how containers could be moved to and from the new terminal to deliver a modern solution serving WA's long-term freight needs over the next 50 years.

The LLOS shortlisted three landside supply chain network options. This included road and rail corridors, intermodal terminals (IMTs), associated infrastructure and land for the development of complementary land uses.

CTAA has representation on Westport's Industry Reference Group (IRG) and provided industry input to the LLOS.  This assistance was acknowledged by Westport Managing Director, Patrick Seares, in a
letter of appreciation dated 24 October 2022.

Supply Chain Integrated Design Project (SCID):

Building on the findings from the LLOS, the WA Government has now awarded a $15.2 million contract to engineering consulting firm WSP Australia to lead a Supply Chain Integrated Design Project (SCID).

To be delivered over the coming 18 months, the SCID will model and refine design options for the new terminal and supporting road and rail network.

An announcement about the SCID contract being awarded to WSP Australia by the WA Minister for Transport, Planning & Ports, the Hon. Rita Saffioti, can be viewed:

CTAA will continue to cooperate with the WA Government, Westport Team and WSP Australia to provide opportunities for industry to input their views and expertise to the SCID.
CTAA and Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) are providing the opportunity for industry to receive a briefing on container logistics matters in WA, including a presentation from Westport's General Manager, Cath Lyons, on the findings from Westport's Landside Logistics Opportunity Study (LLOS) and the commencement of the Supply Chain Integrated Design (SCID) Project.

The briefing is from 3.30pm this Thursday, 10 November at the Tompkins Club in Alfred Cover near Fremantle, followed by a networking opportunity over informal drinks and nibbles.
