On Friday 1 July the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is to be renamed the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
This morning Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) sought clarification with senior executives of the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment who confirmed the following:
Consistent with previous occasions where the Australian Government has restructured the public service, documents that refer to a previous department name will continue to be acceptable.
The critical aspect on these documents is ensuring Australia's biosecurity requirements have been met.
The changing of names does not have an impact under law as departments are not legal entities.
Importantly this confirms that existing templates in circulation for packing declarations that refer to the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment will continue to be acceptable post the name change of 1 July 2022 to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
