Further Sanctions Russia / Belarus this week

Importers, exporters and their agents are advised further people and entities have been designated this week under the Russia Sanctions Act 2022. One of the effects of these designations is to prohibit New Zealand businesses and individuals from importing goods from or exporting goods to these people and entities anywhere in the world. The updated register of designated individuals and entities, plus the list of export trade measures in place against Russia and Belarus can be found on MFAT's website, select Read more below.

This week a guidance note on banking transactions has been put on this page, which will assist anyone contemplating trade with entities. FAQs on the page are being regularly updated and added.

New law helps secure New Zealand's maritime domain

Legislation that will help prevent serious criminal offending at sea, including trafficking of humans, drugs, wildlife and arms, has passed its third reading in Parliament, Foreign Affairs Nanaia Mahuta announced.

Reminder: Modern Slavery and Worker Exploitation consultation comments sought

Importers, exporters and their agents are invited to have their say on proposed legislation to address modern slavery and worker exploitation in supply chains and operations. The legislation would create new responsibilities for all types of organisations in New Zealand, with more responsibilities for larger organisations.

MBIE want to know how best to facilitate lasting cultural change and encourage best practice to support freedom, fairness and human dignity across our operations and supply chains. Have your say by answering a short survey or making a written submission before 7 June.

Vessel Management Framework

A Vessel Management Framework has been launched to help guide those involved in managing cargo operations, to do so safely should a vessel have or be suspected of having COVID-19 on board.

The guidance has been prepared for port operators, unions, agents, government agencies and Public Health Units to follow whenever a vessel remains liable to or is placed in quarantine or a crew member is isolating on board.  The framework clarifies the roles and responsibilities for all parties involved, and provides a process map and templates to guide users for safe cargo operations and pilotage.

This means that the Customs continuous collectors permit, and paperless transhipment scheme and MPI's General Authorisation of Carriage (GAC) can no longer be used to move uncleared air-freight.
