CEO's message

Welcome to this month's edition of Port of Brisbane News.

I'm delighted to announce that global logistics and supply chain operator, MEDLOG, is moving to the Port, recently signing a 30-year lease for a 7.3ha site on Fisherman Island and supporting its business expansion into Queensland.

We're now only a month away from opening the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal and welcoming our first vessel, P&O's Pacific Explorer, in June. It's been a long time coming following its completion in 2020, but we're excited to be welcoming our cruise line customers and their passengers to Brisbane next month.

Applications have now closed for our annual $100,000 Community Grant Program that supports community organisations across the region. I look forward to announcing the recipients in July.

Trade Update

The first batch of componentry for the Dulacca Wind Farm arrived at the Port of Brisbane in late March. In total, the project will consist of 43 turbines and includes blades that are up to 74 metres in length.

Additional shipments are expected to arrive at the Port over the next few months where the cargo will be stored before being trucked out to site.

The Dulacca Wind Farm Project is located between Dulacca and Drillham, approximately 250km west of Toowoomba. Once constructed the wind farm will generate 180 mega-watts - enough electricity to power approximately 124,000 homes!

Congratulations to all stakeholders involved in the project to date.

Welcome, MEDLOG!

PBPL and global logistics and supply chain operator, MEDLOG, have signed a 30-year lease to develop a 7.3ha site on Fisherman Islands.  Not only is this supporting MEDLOG's expansion into Queensland but when operational, the new facility will be one of the world's most automated container parks, incorporating high-end technology to deliver world-class standards in terms of operation and safety.

Onsite construction is commencing early May, with the facility expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2022.

It continues the successful year to date for our Property team, who are delivering high-quality projects for Wallace International, TNS Logistics and Autocare.

Cruising towards June

The Brisbane International Cruise Terminal is a hive of activity, with preparations continuing to support the resumption of cruising in Queensland and the opening of the new cruise terminal in June.

PBPL is working closely with our cruise line partners, government agencies and other stakeholders to ensure the facility is ready ahead of the arrival of the first vessel,
P&O's Pacific Explorer, on 2 June.

Over the coming weeks, we will be hosting numerous site visits, familiarisations and trials to further prepare for day one.

Keep up to date with important information and regular updates on our website and social media channels.

IFM Investors funding boost for rehabilitation project

A rehabilitation project by PBPL and Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C) has received a major funding boost thanks to a $40,000 community grant by PBPL securityholder, IFM Investors.

The project will rehabilitate part of an important waterway corridor on Brisbane Bayside State College land – improving ecosystem health, supporting greater biodiversity and better water quality – while becoming a valuable learning space for students and the broader Bayside community when it's finished.

B4C will also provide work experience opportunities in conservation and land care management during the works.

Cotton crops on their way

Australia's cotton industry is looking towards a bumper year, expecting a crop size of 5.2 million bales – the second largest crop on record – though an even bigger harvest is possible following the wet summer. This is pleasing after a challenging drought period and tireless work by the industry to develop and expand new and existing markets.

On average, approximately 50% of the national crop is exported through Port of Brisbane, with exports coming from as far as the Ord River in WA, Central QLD, Darling and Western Downs, Macintyre region and North West NSW.

Cotton has now started exporting from the Port. We're grateful for the opportunity to work with all stakeholders in the cotton supply chain and are excited about the year ahead.

Safety of roadside workers

This is an important reminder to all road users to slow down when driving through roadworks – speeding vehicles and poor driver behaviour puts roadside workers at risk.

Road works are common across the port precinct, and it is everyone's responsibility to slow down and obey all traffic management and road rules.

PBPL will continue to work with the Queensland Police Service and other authorities to improve road safety.

If you see a dangerous driver on port roads or any road, you can Report dangerous driving online or phone 13 HOON (13 46 66), report the incident to your workplace or send an email to pbpl.security@portbris.com.au.
