CRACKDOWN ON PORT AND AIRPORT WORKERS - DRUG IMPORTATION

Monday, April 11, 2022

As outlined in a recent media release from the Hon Karen Andrews (Minister for Home Affairs), the Federal Government is ramping up resources to identify those within Australia's supply chain that are complicit in illegal activity.

The Minister has put these criminals on notice following strong results from 'Operation Jardena' and has committed to doubling the number of Australian Border Force (ABF) officers focused on combatting this threat.

This focus has had an immediate success via a joint exercise between the ABF, the Australian Federal Police and overseas law enforcement agencies resulting in a freight forwarding worker last week being charged over his alleged role in a plan to import 100 kilograms of methamphetamine from Canada – refer AFP media release.

This focus has now attracted the attention of mainstream media with a feature story showcasing the ABF investigation of 77 Victorians allegedly involved in importing schemes across the state.
