CEO WELCOME
________________

Welcome to this month's edition of Port of Brisbane News.

It's pleasing to see bulk and containerised grain export tonnages through the Port continue to increase on last year's volumes following much-improved weather conditions in our trade hinterland.

Construction commenced on the new purpose-built premise for TNS Logistics in our Port Gate Estate during October. It's one of several developments underway across the Port.

There are also plenty of updates to share in the environment and community space this month.

Our community partner, OzFish Unlimited, launched a 6-year, 19-hectare Shellfish Reef Restoration project in Moreton Bay adjacent to the Port and we continue to see great progress on the Downfall Creek Restoration project, which is utilising our innovative Offsite Stormwater Treatment approach.  Both will deliver significant environmental and community benefits.

TRADE UPDATE
________________

Bulk grain exports have surged in FY22 with just under 450,000 tonnes exported from July through to October. This is a welcome turnaround compared with the first quarter of FY21 when the Port of Brisbane received import bulk grain shipments following a prolonged drought period in our regional areas.

Wheat has been the dominant commodity, accounting for 73% of the total tonnage, followed by sorghum, chickpeas and cotton seed.

The Port of Brisbane's bulk grain exports exceeded 1 million tonnes in FY21 – the first time in almost a decade – and we anticipate a bumper winter crop may further boost this year's export tonnages once the harvest is completed in the coming months.

TNS LOGISTICS DEVELOPMENT BREAKS GROUND
________________

The sod's been turned and construction's progressing well on a new warehouse facility in our Port Gate Estate for integrated logistics provider, TNS Logistics. McNab is delivering the facility on behalf of PBPL with construction expected to be completed in February.

Construction on Wallace International's warehouse facility in our Port West Estate is full steam ahead, with over 60% of steel erected and the external pavements underway.  The facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

CUSTOMER IN FOCUS AS GROUND
________________

Congratulations to our customer, Patrick Terminals, and its partner, Cindicum, who last week took out the Safety at Sea category for the Pondus weighting solution at the 2021 Seatrade Maritime Awards, international awards that recognise industry innovation and progress.

The Pondus weighing initiative – developed and trialled in Brisbane – was devised to help identify mis-declared container weights and enable parties to better meet their Chain of Responsibility obligations, helping to drive safety across the supply chain.

DOWNFALL CREEK RESTORATION PROJECT
________________

A project to reduce erosion and sediment run-off in the heart of Brisbane is making great strides, with Stage 1 of the Downfall Creek Restoration Project completed and Stage 2 works underway.

The partnership between PBPL, Brisbane City Council and the Council of Mayors' (SEQ) Resilient Rivers Initiative is using PBPL's Offsite Stormwater Approach to improve waterway health and amenity for the local community.

By reprofiling and rehabilitating stretches of degraded creek beds and revegetating with over 2500 native plants, the project will significantly reduce erosion and sediment run-off from the creek, which connects into the Brisbane River and ultimately Moreton Bay.

Find out more about our offsite stormwater treatment approach on our
website.

AUSTRALIA'S LARGEST SHELLFISH REEF RESTORATION PROJECT KICKS OFF
________________

We were delighted to celebrate the launch of the largest community-driven shellfish reef restoration program in Australia, right here at the Port of Brisbane.

Led by our community partner, fishing conservation charity OzFish, the launch marked the start of their
Shellfish Revolution that will first involve re-establishing more than 19 hectares of lost shellfish reefs adjacent to the Port of Brisbane in Moreton Bay, the largest of any shellfish reef restoration in Queensland. Not only will it create vital shellfish habitat and improve water quality, it will also rejuvenate aquatic life and improve fish productivity.

We've been a long-term supporter of this project, providing land for their operations at our Port Gate Estate and access to parts of Moreton Bay to monitor and progressively place over 50,000 robust oyster baskets (ROBS) over the next six years which will ultimately create the reef. Watch
OzFish's video to find out more.

QUANDAMOOKA JARJUMS CAMP
________________

We were proud to sponsor and participate in the Quandamooka Jarjums Camp with DP World and Svitzer Australia on Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island) last month, for the seventh consecutive year.

The Camp is an opportunity for Year 6 Indigenous school students to learn more about their culture and connection to Country through stories from local Elders and by enjoying traditional foods and participating in cultural workshops.

Employees from PBPL, DP World and Svitzer enjoyed a dance performance by the students on Cylinder Beach and took the opportunity to meet and talk with leaders from the host organisations, Yulu-Burri-Ba and Education Queensland.

You can watch a highlights reel of the Camp here.

SMIDDY FUN WEEK
________________

This month PBPL employees are lacing up their sneakers to participate in the annual Smiddy Fun Week.  The annual event is held in memory of PA Hospital physiotherapist Adam Smiddy, whose life was cut short at 26 years old by an aggressive melanoma in 2006.

One Tuesday, 23 November at 6.30am, PBPL will be hosting a Fort to Port fun run.  If you're interested in joining the Port of Brisbane employees, please email
events@portbris.com.auFor more information about how you could get involved, visit the Smiddy Fun Run webpage.

PBPL is proud to support the PA Hospital Foundation and their important work they do in raising funds for ground-breaking medical research.
