Port of Brisbane’s 2020/21 Sustainability Report released

Port of Brisbane today released it's 2020/21 Sustainability Report, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and outlining its progress on actions and initiatives during the year. 
 
Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) Interim CEO and CFO, Neil Stephens, said PBPL's sustainability program continued to lead the way in the ports industry.
 
"Our sustainability program is delivering real value not just to our business but to our customers, stakeholders and the broader community as well," said Mr Stephens.
 
"It has been a unique 12 months for Port of Brisbane, as we continue to navigate the challenges posed by COVID-19 as they impact our business, our industry and the community.
 
"Three years into the program, we have put sustainability at the core of our business strategy. We believe this will support PBPL's sustainable growth as well as deliver long-term benefits for our customers and the broader Port of Brisbane community. 
 
"We also believe it will enable our business to become even more agile, enabling us to adapt and respond to new challenges and opportunities as our industry seeks to operate more sustainably.
 
"As part of our commitment to sustainability, today we have also released our first our first Climate Change Disclosures Report which outlines how we are managing our climate-related risks – the first Australian port to do so.
 
"We are proud of our sustainability performance and achievements during 2020/21, many of which would not be possible without the strong support and collaboration of our customers and stakeholders."
 
Key achievements and progress for 2020/21 include:

  • Zero LTIs recorded

  • A record 1.49 million TEUs handled

  • 29.3 million overall tonnes of trade

  • Approximately $466 million forecast for port infrastructure works over the next five years

  • Six new property tenants welcomed, with eight existing customers expanding their operations

  • 299% increase in solar energy production

  • 41% of PBPL-generated waste recycled

  • 703 volunteer hours for community projects completed by employees

  • Launched our first Reconciliation Action Plan

  • $400,000 invested in training and development initiatives
