Farmers depend on chemicals to manage their commercial competitiveness, sustainability, and farm gate returns.

Over the last decade there have been considerable changes to the agricultural and veterinary (agvet) chemical market. The agvet chemical legislative framework is more than 25 years old, is complex and in urgent need of reform.

In 2018 the department consulted with industry on measures that were incorporated into the APVMA Board and other Improvements Bill(External link). On 18 September 2019 the Bill was introduced into parliament.

While a comprehensive review of the regulatory framework(External link) is underway, there are important measures that need be considered in the interim, to improve safe user access to chemicals.

The Bill requires supporting delegated legislation to fully implement some of its measures.

While the department has already consulted on some of these supporting measures, the details of others are new.

We would like to know what you think of the proposed new supporting measures.
