June 2021 Boating Update

The Victorian Government has extended its stay at home measures for another seven days. The lockdown will be extended from 11.59pm Thursday 3 June until 11:59pm on Thursday 10 June in light of new cases being identified.

Anyone travelling from Victoria into NSW will need to complete a declaration. Exemptions are in place for people in the border regions if they travel within the border regions.

  • All recreational boating is permitted
  • Face masks are not mandatory but are still recommended on Public Transport

Commercial vessel operators

Restrictions still exist for commercial vessel operators hosting functions or for commercial tours under the Public Health (COVID-19 Gathering Restrictions) Order (No 2) 2021. Most notably those restrictions are:

  • Commercial Vessel operators hosting functions or for commercial tours are required to develop and comply with a COVID Safety Plan and keep that plan on the vessel and available for inspection (Clause 10). For more information on creating a safety plan, see Commercial vessels (including tours, functions, parties or similar recreational activities) and party buses checklist

  • As commercial vessels hosting functions or commercial tours are defined as a premise, the vessel operator is required to comply with the 1 person per 2sqm rule, unless there are less than 25 people on the vessel in which case no capacity limits apply

  • If a vessel is used in commercial tours for scuba diving, snorkelling or whale, dolphin or marine animal watching, it is exempt from capacity limits provided there are 50 or less people on the vessel.

Onshore activities

When onshore, observe the current guidelines and restrictions for the area you're in. This applies in any public place, such as a wharf or publicly accessible vessel. Skippers must also remember their other safety responsibilities regarding safety equipment, alcohol consumption, keeping a proper lookout and proceeding at a safe speed.

Further information about what you can and can't do is available on What you can and can't do under the rules.
