CEO WELCOME
________________

Welcome to this month's edition of Port News.

It's been a very challenging start to the month for our southern neighbours, who are feeling the impact of another COVID-19 lockdown and our thoughts are with our Victorian colleagues, their families and communities.

While our trade and property development areas of the business remain busy, our teams also had a major focus on community engagement initiatives during May.

I was delighted to see over 120 people from across the port attend our annual National Reconciliation Week event, where we also proudly launched PBPL's first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).  A special thanks to renowned Quandamooka artist,
Delvene Cockatoo-Collins who presented her original artwork "Journey through the bay to the river, 2020", created especially for our RAP.

TRADE UPDATE
________________

Export shipments of this year's cotton crops are moving through the Port in increased volumes thanks to improved growing seasons for agricultural producers.  National production estimates are expected to reach approximately 2.85 million bales this season, a significant increase on last year's season which peaked at approximately 600,000 bales.

Port of Brisbane remains the country's key port for the cotton industry, with around 50% of Australian cotton exported through the Port. Vietnam is the largest export destination followed by China.

To find out more about cotton and other commodities coming through the port, please refer to our
monthly trade reports

PROPERTY UPDATE
________________

Development activity and enquiries continue across our property precincts as we continue to support a growing port community.

In our Port West Estate, construction of the new facility for Wallace International will commence next month, with McNab awarded the design and construction tender for the build. Construction is expected to be completed by the end-2021.  Full details are available on our website.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK
________________

Last month, PBPL hosted its annual National Reconciliation Week event – an opportunity to come together and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

The port-wide event included the launch of PBPL's first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Endorsed by both
Reconciliation Australia and the PBPL Board, it includes a program of activities initiatives we'll complete over the next 12 months.

Renowned Quandamooka artist,
Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, also presented her original artwork "Journey through the bay to the river, 2020" – a representation of the journey from the southern part of Quandamooka waters to the mouth of the Brisbane River.  The artwork was created especially for our RAP.

CUSTOMER IN FOCUS
________________

The new Liebherr crane at Patrick Terminals - Brisbane AutoStrad that arrived earlier this year has been undergoing assembly in the terminal. On Saturday 22 May 2021, the assembled crane was moved onto the quay line. This operation, which involved heavy-lift moving equipment being placed under the unit to lift and inch forward into position on the crane rails, went without a hitch.

The next stage of the commissioning will see the crane connected to the terminal power and then progress to operational commissioning, testing and training. The transfer of the crane to the quay line was completed very efficiently and without incident or injury.

When operational, the crane will be 108 metres tall with the boom up and have the ability to lift 75 tonnes as a heavy lift. The new crane will have the capability to service vessels 20 containers wide making it the largest, fastest and highest capacity ship-to-shore crane in Brisbane.

PBPL CELEBRATES NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS WEEK
________________

Last month, 30 PBPL employees from PBPL rolled up their sleeves and volunteered to help some of our community partners, as part of National Volunteer Week – Australia's largest annual celebration of volunteers.

From Monday 17 to Sunday 23 May, PBPL completed 166 hours of volunteer work for partners including Rosies, Ocean Crusaders, B4C, BABI, Brisbane Bayside State College and Traction Community.  It's part of our broader Employee Volunteering Program which has so far seen 66 employees complete almost 700 hours of volunteering work for local charities since July.

BE PART OF A 16-WEEK TRUCK-FIT STUDY
________________

PBPL is pleased to support The University of Queensland and Australian Heart Foundation's 12-week Truck-Fit study to assess the impact of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on heart health.

Brisbane-based transport companies are invited to take part in the program which aims to assess whether just four minutes of high-intensity exercise, three times a week, can help the fitness, sleep quality and fatigue levels of truck drivers.

The program runs from June to November 2021 and will be delivered at depots by health and fitness experts.

If you would like to learn more or to speak to the lead investigator, please contact Associate Professor – Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour, Dr. Nicholas D. Gilson via email or 0431 099 337.
