CEO WELCOME
________________

Welcome to this month's edition of Port News.

Year-on-year trade volumes for some commodities through the Port continue to improve, reflecting broader economic trends. In particular, we are seeing higher volumes of container imports, including building materials, household and white goods and other retail goods, mostly driven by increased consumer spending and confidence and the current residential housing boom. It's also pleasing to see a return to strong bulk agriculture shipments as new season grain harvests begin.

A big welcome to our newest customer TNS Logistics, who is relocating to our Port Gate Estate. It's great to see another warehousing and logistics business benefit from being close to the terminals and wharves. Construction of the new facility will commence mid-2021 with completion before Christmas.

Still on the property front, we also joined with Team Transport and Logistics to officially open its new facility in the Port West Industrial Estate. We hope you enjoy your new home!

In other news, I also had the pleasure of awarding six charity organisations with community consultative committee funding last month to help them continue their important work.

TRADE UPDATE
________________

Following years of ongoing drought, bulk grain exports through Port of Brisbane have increased from the historical lows of 10,815 tonnes in FY20, so far reaching almost 700,000 tonnes this financial year.

Shipments of wheat and chickpeas commenced in December, whilst bulk sorghum consignments started in April.

Harvesting of this season's cotton is now underway with Cotton Australia forecasting production to reach over 2.5 million bales nationally. This is a huge increase on the 600,000 bales that was produced last season.

TEAM TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS CELEBRATES OPENING
________________

Last week, we were delighted to celebrate the opening of the new Team Transport and Logistics warehouse development in our Port West Industrial Estate. PBPL worked closely with Team Transport, principal contractor McNab, and project contractors to design and deliver a facility that will support their operations well into the future.

TTL Director, Steve Skinner, cut the ribbon on the new facility which includes a 2,000sqm warehouse, 4,430sqm dedicated hardstand, 225sqm office space and a wash bay area. Full details are available on our website.

CREEK RESTORATION PARTNERSHIP
________________

A partnership between PBPL, Brisbane City Council and the Council of Mayors' (SEQ) Resilient Rivers Initiative will prevent approximately 375 tonnes of sediment travelling into the Brisbane River and Moreton Bay every year.

Utilising PBPL's innovative approach to offsite stormwater treatment, the Downfall Creek Restoration Project (within 7th Brigade Park in Chermside) will reduce erosion and stabilise the area, identified by BCC as a priority site for rehabilitation and enhancement works.

As part of the project, around 70 people joined a community planting day hosted by BCC and Brisbane Catchments Network Inc. to plant 1,300 native plants to create and enhance habitat fo
native species in the area.

Visit
Council's website for information about the project or PBPL's website for details about our offsite stormwater work.

NEW RECYCLING INITIATIVE THROUGH TERRACYCLE
________________

PBPL has launched a new recycling initiative, recycling unusable safety workwear with TerraCycle® via its Zero Waste Box™ solution.

As part of the Port's approach to embedding sustainability across every aspect of our business, the initiative will see safety gear like hard hats, safety goggles, gloves and ear plugs sent to TerraCycle where it is sorted, turned into plastic granules and transformed into new products.

It's part of PBPL's broader Target Zero program, which commits our business to achieve zero net emissions, zero waste to landfill and net positive water by 2030.

To find out more about our approach to sustainability, visit the Sustainability page on our website.
