A support vessel is on its way to meet Australia's chartered Antarctic

resupply vessel, MPV Everest, after a fire on board damaged the

port engine last Monday.

The large offshore tug, GO Spica, departed the Port of Fremantle

last night and is now under 70 nautical miles from MPV Everest

and heading south.

While MPV Everest is continuing north under its own power, GO

Spica was deployed as a precautionary measure taken by the

ship's owner, Maritime Construction Services.

All 109 expeditioners and crew on the vessel are safe and

making preparations for their arrival into Fremantle.

The ships are due to berth late on Tuesday.
